On December 1, 2014, version 4.2 of the Mac Online Bible was released. Latest previous version was 4.1.1. Glad to know the Mac Online Bible is still actively being developed... Phew! it was scary there for a while.

Please note: this is the native version, meaning: it is not the PC version running under Wine .

I would like to hear your opinion of it. Online Bible is a major factor that has me still with Windows. If the Mac version of its is equal to the Windows one... I might go Mac the next time I buy a new computer.

theDaniel,
You have been aware of me as being more of a Windows user but I have tried to keep information available that would be of assistance to Mac users. The latest info I have concerning Mac's can be found at this website: www.onlinebible.us/maconlinebible.html .
I would appreciate any follow-up from you all on this.
David.

That is good news. I too hope to hear from Mac users about their experience with the Native Mac version.

Sorry for this delayed response.

There is basically no difference between the new release, v 4.2.1 and the previous, v 4.1.1. Only thing that was added was a built-in updating mechanism. So now every time the app is launched it automatically checks for updates, there is no way to disable this.

From the developer release notes:

One of the primary reasons for the version 4.2 update, was to make several new Bible versions available, such as ESV, HCSB, Message & Amplified, and to remove the restrictions on the number of modules that can be loaded at any one time.
The program was also updated so that upon launch it automatically checks to see if a new release is available and, if so, notifies you.

Because we prepay the royalties for ESV, HCSB, NKJV and The Message, we only make them available on our version 4.2 (or later) CDs but not as downloads. To get these newer translations, you must buy a CD containing them. If you own a version 4.2 (or later) CD you may pay the royalty for the Amplified and/or RVR60 modules in our store and we will send the module(s) to you by email.

Unfortunately the developer is not embracing the newer technologies in software or software distribution. He still provides no means of downloading the equivalent of a complete CD, only the free parts, i.e. the 'starter pack', etc. So if you have one of the 2013 or newer Macs and want to take advantage of some of the newer modules, you must order a v 4.2 CD and then add $10 for a USB flash drive to install them.
